Position Overview

Position: Emergency Planning and Management Specialist

Job Description

We are looking for a consultant to assist with the development of the Emergency Food Security Response Plan for the client’s Food Partners. The consultant will review applicable Emergency Management and Food Security documentation to develop an understanding of food distribution requirements (and best practices) during emergencies. Then, review and assess the current capabilities of the client’s food partners to develop an understanding of capacity, as well as confirm the specific topics that must be included as part of the new Plan. Then, conduct and facilitate a series of planning meetings with the required stakeholders and food experts to develop a comprehensive Emergency Food Security Response Plan to ensure that the Emergency Food Task Force is prepared to efficiently mobilize its resources to ensure a quick and effective distribution of food to those in need during emergencies.

Roles and Responsibilities

The consultant’s roles and responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

  • Review of Emergency Management and Food Security Documentation
  • Assessment of Current Capabilities that includes evaluating the existing emergency response capabilities and identifying strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in current emergency preparedness measures specific to food security.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation
  • Development of the Emergency Food Security Response Plan

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years in emergency planning and management, e.g. food security, supply chain, logistics and distribution, etc.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the public sector, e.g., municipal or provincial, etc.
