Position Overview

EMERGENCY PROGRAM The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is inviting applications for an Emergency Program Coordinator based
COORDINATOR—NELSON out of our Nelson office to coordinate and oversee the local Emergency Management Program within a set geographical

area of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK).

Full Time, Benefitted Reporting to the Manager of Community Sustainability, the
primary responsibilities of this position will be leading
emergency preparedness, response, and recovery from an
Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) perspective, as well as
providing day-to-day support to their defined geographical
area. During an active EOC, this position will also act as EOC
Director.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:  Certificate in Emergency Management or equivalent 
Advanced knowledge & experience in Emergency  3 years experience in emergency preparedness,

Operation Centres response or recovery sector with a focus on EOC 

Considerable knowledge of emergency programs & response

systems  1 additional year of leadership experience, preferably 

Demonstrated understanding of relevant federal, while leading an EOC

provincial & local acts, policy and bylaw & how they  Demonstrated competency in project management

apply in a rural context  Valid Class 5 drivers license & satisfactory drivers 

Ability to work independently with a consultative abstract

teamwork approach  Satisfactory Criminal Record check 

Ability to develop & present training and instruction to a

variety of stakeholders CONDITIONS OF WORK: 
Excellent networking skills, with the ability to coordinate  Participation in the RDCK Emergency on-call program

groups of workers & volunteers across a wide  In event of an emergency, working long hours under
geographical area stressful conditions 

Professional report writing skills  Travel & overnight stays may be required in the event of 
Strong interpersonal & communication skills with an emergency

demonstrated conflict resolution experience 
Ability to develop & maintain budgets, prepare funding
